This specimen was part of lot 29125 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $3,290. The catalog description^[1] noted, "George VI Proof Set 1950, the nine coin set in the original mint case. Scarce set with a mintage of 500. Some minor spotting." The threepence was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1950 and 0.500 fine thereafter. This type, struck 1948-50, is common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: 4,096,000 plus 500 proofs.

Specification: 1.41 g, 0.800 fine silver, 16 mm diameter.
