This specimen was lot 24873 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Sovereign, 1931-SA. Pretoria Mint. NGC MS-65. A lovely gem with a good strike, light honey tone and underlying soft satin luster." The Pretoria mint operated as a branch of the Royal mint, striking George V sovereigns 1923-32. This type, struck 1929-32, has a slightly smaller bust than the earlier issues.
