Sincona sale 98, lot 4454

This specimen was lot 4454 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,451 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1793, Solothurn. Silberabschlag. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Zuberbühler, Auktion SINCONA 16, Zürich, Oktober 2013, Los 5959. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, half batzen of 1793, Solothurn mint, struck in silver. Very rare, About Extremely Fine.)"

In Germany, the convention thaler was 120 kreuzer but 160 kreuzer in Switzerland. The reverse motto, "CUNCTA PER DEUM", translates as, "United by God." This type was struck 1760-62, 1787, 1793-96. Most dates are common in circulated condition but this example is an off-metal strike.
