This specimen was issued by the Solomon Islands. The Solomon Islands, especially Guadalcanal, were the scene of heavy fighting during World War Two. Coinage commenced in 1977. Most of this type were products of the Franklin Mint, which issued them 1977-83. This one is not mintmarked and was likely made at the Royal Mint. The reverse depicts a statue of a native deity. As of August 2019, US$1 = SBD $8.13.

Recorded mintage: 1,500,000 plus 14,000 proofs (FM).

Specification: copper-nickel, 13.4 g, 30 mm diameter.
