Solms-Laubach 1738-AV thaler Dav-2779
This specimen was lot 1687 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,772 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Solms-Laubach, Christian August, 1738-1784. Taler 1738, Nürnberg. Auf seine Vermählung mit Elisabetha Amalia Friederica von Isenburg. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Germany, county of Solms-Laubach, Christian August, 1738-84, thaler of 1738, Nuremberg mint, on his marriage to Elisabetha Amalia Friederica von Isenburg. Extremely Fine, Nicely toned.)"
This rare issue celebrated the count's marriage. Sadly, a thaler of 1748 commemorated her death. The county was mediatized to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806 but the last coinage is dated 1770.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29.10 g.
