Sincona sale 47, lot 3036

This specimen was lot 3036 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 225 CHF (about US$270 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Wallis/Valais, Sitten, Bistum, Franz Friedrich Ambüel, 1760-1780. 20 Kreuzer 1777. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (bishopric of Sitten, Francis Frederick Ambuel, 1760-80, twenty kreuzer of 1777. Rare, Good very fine.)"

This one year type was issued by the bishop of Sitten (Sion in French), now part of the canton of Valais. Valais was not officially a member of the Swiss confederation until 1815.
