Sitten 1777 12 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3634 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$398 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Wallis/Valais | Sitten, Bistum. Franz Friedrich Ambüel, 1760-1780. 12 Kreuzer 1777, Sitten. Mzz. D - S (David Städelin). Laubrand. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, bishopric of Sitten, Franz Friedrich Ambüel, 1760-80, twelve kreuzer of 1777, Sitten mint. Laurel wreath. About extremely fine.)"
This was the only issue of this denomination from this bishopric in the eighteenth century. It was accompanied by a six kreuzer (KM 36), half batzen (KM 33), batzen (KM 35) and twenty kreuzer (KM 38). Sitten is Sion in French. Twelve kreuzer = three batzen = 3/40 thaler.
