Sinzendorf 1676 ducat Fr-3289
This specimen was lot 1523 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$14,566 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Neuburg Grafschaft. Georg Ludwig von Sinzendorf, 1616-1680. Dukat 1676, Wien. Von grösster Seltenheit. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. Feine Goldpatina. (Austria, county of Sinzendorf, George Louis of Sinznedorf, 1616-80, ducat of 1676, Vienna mint. Of the highest rarity, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Nice gold toning.)"
The count was an Austrian court official who used his position to embezzle two million gulden from the emperor. Tried for his crimes, he died before he could be punished. This rare ducat was accompanied by a half thaler and thaler.
