This specimen was issued by Singapore as part of the F.A.O. series. The regular five cent coin (KM 2, issued 1967-85) was copper-nickel. Singapore, today an independent city-state, was until 1948 part of the British colony of the Straits Settlements. It left the Federation of Malaysia in 1965 and commenced coinage in 1967. The pomfret fish shown here is excellent when grilled with soy sauce and garlic.
