Künker Auction 439, lot 2275

The first specimen was lot 2898 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 3,700 CHF (about US$4,491 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Leopold I. 1657-1705. Dukat 1676 SHS, Breslau. Sehr selten. PCGS AU Details. Kratzer auf dem Avers. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, ducat of 1676, Breslau mint. Very rare, Scratches on obverse.)"

The second specimen was lot 2275 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,577 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. Dukat 1676 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1675 geändert) SHS, Breslau. Wardein Salomon Hammerschmidt. GOLD. RR Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben in den 1960er Jahren im Münzhandel. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, ducat of 1676, Breslau mint, 1676/5 overdate. Very rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This imperial type was struck 1669-82. The Breslau mint also struck coinage for the local bishop and featured the episcopal bust.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, the second specimen 3,40 g.
