Sikh Empire VS1887 paisa KM-4
This specimen was lot 2278 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "SIKH EMPIRE: AE paisa, Amritsar, VS1887, the year VS1887 was unknown to both Herrli and KM, but several examples have appeared in recent years; this appears to be the second known example with the full VS date, strong VF, RR." This type is listed for VS 1880-1882. The date "١٨٨٧" is visible to the left of the leaf. The Sikhs were crushed in AD 1849 (VS 1906) and their coinage ended. Falus was the Arabic name and paisa was the Hindu name for any low value copper coin.
