Stephen Album sale 47, lot 949

This specimen was lot 949 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "SIKH EMPIRE: AE falus (paisa), Multan, VS[18]82, VF-EF, RR." The SCWC lists this type for VS 1875 and 1878 but notes many botched or fictitious dates exist. The Sikhs were crushed in AD 1849 (VS 1906) and their coinage ended. Falus was the Arabic name and paisa was the Hindu name for any low value copper coin.
