The first specimen was lot 42454 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $364.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sicily. 4 Tari, 1648. Philip IV (1621-65). NGC AU-55. With little interest in the affairs of state, Phillip IV was a dedicated patron of the arts, compiling a collection that included many masterpieces by Rubens and Cano. The basis of today's collection at the Prado Museum is a legacy of his efforts. The coin offered here exhibits a marvelously clear portrait fully worthy of the lofty assigned grade. Any weakness is more the result of eroded dies than poor striking. A few minor flan imperfections, but overall a wonderful example of the issue with bright surfaces and great centering." The second specimen was lot 74035 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[2] noted, "ITALY. Naples & Sicily (Sicily). 4 Tari, 1648-IP MP. Messina Mint. Filippo III (Philip IV of Spain). PCGS MS-62. Rather interesting with respect to its planchet shape, this nearly-Choice exemplar offers an enchanting level of quality that is RARELY encountered. Some hints of champagne are observed within the protected areas, such as the elaborately ruffled collar of the King. From the David Sterling Collection." The portrait is of Philip IV of Spain. The Spanish Hapsburgs ruled Naples and Sicily as part of their Aragonese inheritance from the death of Ferdinand the Catholic in 1517 until the death of Charles II in 1700. Four tari equaled one third of a piastra. This type is listed for 1621-65.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
