Shansi Province lies in the north east of China, where the richest coal deposits are located. Mints operated intermittently since 1645. Modern mintage began in 1919 and continued only into the 1920’s. The specimen shown was lot 60496 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $299. The catalog description[1] noted, "Shansi Arsenal. 2 Fen, CD (1928). 民國十七年軍工工友消費証貳分。NGC XF Details--Environmental Damage."
