Seychelles 1978 100 rupees
This specimen was part of lot 31202 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $2,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "Seychelles: Republic 3-Piece gold & silver "Conservation" Proof Set 1978, 1) "Squirrel Fish" 50 Rupees - Proof; 2) "White-tailed Tropic Bird" 100 Rupees - Proof; 3) gold "White-tailed Tropic Bird" 1500 Rupees - PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC; A popular Conservation Series set, the gold 1500 Rupees from a mintage of just 201 pieces and almost flawlessly represented here, the two silver pieces in plastic capsules and with pristine Proof cameo contrasts." This NCLT, issued to promote wildlife conservation and the World Wildlife Fund, was sold in sets with a silver fifty rupees (KM 39) and gold 1500 rupees (KM 41). The uncirculated issue was struck in billon and the proofs struck in sterling silver (shown here).
Recorded mintage: 4,453 plus 4,075 proofs.
Specification: 31.65 g, 0.500 fine silver. Proofs were struck in 0.925 fine silver.
