Serbia 1879 dinar

Sincona sale 39, lot 4362

This specimen was lot 4362 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$960 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Serbien, Michael Obrenovitch IV. (I.), 1868-1889 1 Dinar 1879. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. NGC MS 65. (principality of Serbia, Michael Obrenovitch IV, 1868-89, one dinar of 1879. Extremely rare condition. Cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1879 only but is common in circulated condition. The next dinar is dated 1897.

Recorded mintage: 800,000.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 2.54 g.
