Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46037
SB821-46037r.jpg

This specimen was lot 46037 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 10 Shillings, 1705. Edinburgh Mint. Anne. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. Before the Union. Scattered roughness on the obverse with a natural flan flaw in Anne's hair. Ideally centered with faint golden tone. Minor marks noted under a glass. From the Loch Ness Collection." This type, struck 1705-06, is roughly equal to a British shilling. The Act of Union in 1707 ended the Scottish coinage. This example seems quite underweight.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.98 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 4.41 g.

Catalog reference: S-5700; KM-149.
