This specimen was lot 37391 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Groat (12 Pence), 1559. Edinburgh Mint. Mary, with Francis as Dauphin. PCGS EF-40. Second Period. From the Richard August Collection." This coin is usually listed as a nonsunt, a name taken from the reverse motto, "IAM · NON SVNT · DVO SED · VNA · CARO ·", which means, "They are no more twain, but one flesh". Mary was married to Francis, dauphin of France, only briefly, as he died in 1560.
