Sincona sale 90, lot 1821

This specimen was lot 1821 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 13,000 CHF (about US$17,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Schlick, Grafschaft, Franz Josef, 1675-1740. 1/2 Taler 1677, Prag. Mit dem Titel von Leopold I. Münzmeister Anton Freiherr von Janinall. Stempelschneider H. Glagemann. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich. Kleiner Randfehler. (Austrian states, county of Schlick, Franics Joseph, 1675-1740, half thaler of 1677, Prague mint, struck in the name of Leopold I. Extremely rare, Extremely fine, Minor edge flaw.)"

The counts of Schlick in Bohemia were the original proprietors of the mint at Joachimsthal, where the first "thalers" were struck. This type was struck after the family recovered the mine. It was accompanied by a half thaler (KM 25). They represent the last issues of the seventeenth century.
