Sincona sale 9, lot 3868

This specimen was lot 3868 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Schleswig-Holstein-Plön, Herzogtum Friedrich Karl, 1729-1761. Taler 1761. Geharnischtes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekröntes Wappen auf Zweigen zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön, Frederick Charles, 1729-61, thaler of 1761; obverse: armored bust to right; reverse: crowned arms divide date. Choice extremely fine.)"

The duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön was erected in 1622 out of the duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg. Frederick Charles was the last of four ruling dukes of this line, which lasted until 1761. This rare type is listed in the SCWC for 1761 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
