Schaumburg-Pinneberg (15)97-IG 1/24 thaler
This specimen was lot 11557 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €65 (about US$68). The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 1/24 Taler, 1597- IG. Schaumburg-Holstein-Pinneberg. Adolf XIII. NGC VF-20. Variation with mintmark IG. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." Schaumburg proper is adjacent to Lippe in lower Saxony. The county of Schaumburg-Pinneberg is on the north bank of the Elbe, between Hamburg and Gluckstadt. Erected in the fourteenth century, the line fell extinct in 1640 and the county was annexed by the king of Denmark as duke of Holstein. This 1/24 thaler or groschen is listed in the SCWC for 1600-01 but earlier dates exist.
