Sincona sale 94, lot 3188

This specimen was lot 3188 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$832 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Halbbatzen 1808, Schaffhausen. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, half batzen of 1808, Schaffhausen mint. Extremely Fine-Uncirculated.)"

The canton of Schaffhausen issued three denominations during 1808-09, a kreuzer, a half batzen and a batzen. All are scarce. Forty batzen = four franken = one thaler and ten rappen = one batzen.

Recorded mintage: 79,687.

Specification: 2.0 g, billon, 23 mm diameter, this specimen 1.95 g.
