Sincona sale 11, lot 984

This specimen was lot 984 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Kurfürstentum, Albertiner Johann Georg III. 1680-1691. Taler 1686, Dresden. Hksp. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Electorate of Saxony, John George III (1680-91), thaler of 1686, Dresden mint. Mount mark, very fine.)"

Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This coin was issued by the elector of Saxony in 1681-89 but is somewhat scarce.
