Saxony 1634-HI 2 thaler Dav-7600
This specimen was lot 4430 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,064 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Johann Georg I., 1615-1656. Dicker doppelter Reichstaler 1634, Dresden. R Randfehler, winz. Druckstelle, sehr schön. Exemplar der Lagerliste Udo Gans 37, Arnsberg 1995, Nr. 1549. (electorate of Saxony, John George I, 1615-56, John George I, 1615-56, double thaler of 1634, Dresden mint. Rare, edge defects, minor punch mark, very fine.)"
This type was struck most years during 1620-38 but remains rare. Both the SCWC and Numista state this coin should have mintmaster's initials "HS" but this specimen is clearly "HI".
