This specimen was lot 52255 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1588-HB. Dresden Mint. Christian I. PCGS MS-63. A most beautiful Choice Taler, this pleasing example is fully struck and delivers a soft and shimmering luster. Soft golden tone highlights the surfaces, and much charming appeal is retained, making this a piece that should not be missed by the specialists in the series." This type was struck 1586-91 and is fairly common. A double thaler also exists.
