Sincona sale 11, lot 972

This specimen was lot 972 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum Albertiner August, 1563-1586. Taler 1568, Dresden. Vorzüglich. (Electorate of Saxony, Albert I (1563-86), thaler of 1568, Dresden mint. Extremely fine.)"

Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This Davenport type was struck 1567-86 and is common.
