This specimen was lot 9325 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Weimar. Taler, 1607. Eight sons of Johann III (1605-40). VERY FINE." This type was struck 1607-12 and is among the more common thalers of the period. The eight brothers depicted were co-rulers of the tiny state; the last one, William IV, died in 1662.
