Saxe-Meiningen 1838 1/2 gulden
This specimen was lot 142 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €80 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - 1/2 Gulden 1838, Silver, BERNHARD ERICH 1821-1866, SACHSEN-MEININGEN Head left. Rev. value and date within wreath. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS Genuine UNC Details. Cleaned." This type was struck 1838-41 and is uncommon. The half gulden was equal to one-third of a reichs thaler in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries but shrank to two-sevenths of a union thaler after the Napoleonic Wars. This coin is only slightly larger than a French franc. It is accompanied by a gulden (KM 142).
