Saxe-Lauenburg 1613-IG thaler Dav-7342
This specimen was lot 4235 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LAUENBURG, HERZOGTUM, Franz II. 1581-1619. Reichstaler 1613, Lauenburg. RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (duchy of Lauenburg, Francis II, 1581-1619, thaler of 1613, Lauenburg mint. Very rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"
Lauenburg, upstream of the Elbe from Hamburg, was ruled by a family of Saxon dukes from 1260 until 1689, whereupon it was annexed by Brunswick-Luneburg. The thalers from this locale, including this one, are generally rare, but this one is probably the most available. It was struck 1613, 1617 and 1619.
