This specimen was lot 30705 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Ernst II Ludwig Taler (2/3 Conventiontaler) 1774-LCR AU Details (Surfaces Hairlines) NGC. A well-struck example with barely discernable hairlines underneath lightly golden-toned surfaces. A rare and somewhat confusing type as it is listed as XV Eine Feine Mark instead of X Eine Feine Mark. A very scarce one-year type also referred to as a 'Light Taler.'" The SCWC lists this as a gulden (2/3 thaler) rather than a thaler. It is accompanied by a third thaler (KM 328) and half thaler (KM 331) showing the duke with short hair, a style that would become fashionable twenty years later.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2724, KM 332 (formerly C39).
