Saxe-Coburg 1694-HEA 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 2597 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $108. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAXE-COBURG-EISENACH: Albrecht III, 1680-1699, AR 1/6 thaler, 1694, faint hairlines, VF-XF, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection." This obscure one year type is listed in the SCWC under Saxe-Coburg, a short-lived splinter of the Thuringian duchies that expired on the death of Albert III. After the usual disputes, it was partitioned between Saxe-Hildburghausen, Saxe-Saalfeld and Saxe-Meiningen. The plate coin in the SCWC looks substantially different from that shown here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.33 g, 0.750 fine silver, 29-30 mm diameter.
