Sincona sale 39, lot 3722

This specimen was lot 3722 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | House of Savoy. Sardinia, Carlo II, 1504-1553 Maglia di Bianchetto o. J. Selten. Sehr schön. (duchy of Savoy, Charles II, 1504-53, undated bianchetto, Rare. Very fine.)"

This obscure coin was minted by the duke of Savoy in the late Renaissance. It was one-twelfth of a grosso. The duke of Savoy was promoted to king of Sardinia in 1720 and king of Italy in 1861.
