Steve Album sale 30, lot 971
Saudi Arabia SA30-971r.jpg

This specimen was lot 971 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $58.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAUDI ARABIA: Khalid bin Abdulaziz, 1975-1982, 100 halala, 1977/AH1397, FAO commemorative, NGC graded MS65. In 1977 samples were prepared by the British Royal Mint, but were not intended for circulation. Another example graded MS-65 sold in Heritage World Coin Auction 3022, Lot 28976 for $175." The Arab legend urges, "Feed the needy," one of the five pillars of Islam. It is dated in both the Hegira calendar (AH 1397) and the AD date (1977), something that was not done for the regular issue. Altho never officially issued, enough have leaked onto the marketplace that it is not rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10 g, copper-nickel, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-59.
