This specimen was lot 40229 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sardinia. 100 Lire, 1836. PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. Anchor mint mark. Mintage of 703 pieces." This type was struck 1832-45 at Turin and Genoa (shown here) and superseded the gold eighty lire of the previous reign. Tho not rare, it is expensive.

Specification: 32.25 grams, 0.900 fine gold, .933 troy oz AGW, 34 mm diameter, lettered edge.
