This specimen was lot 40224 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $43,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sardinia. 80 Lire, 1821-L. NGC AU-58. One Year Type Sardinia 80 Lire. VERY RARE one year type. Mintage of only 965 pieces. Demarete Collection." This rare issue is accompanied by an equally rare twenty lire (KM 117).
