Sincona sale 90, lot 1394

This specimen was lot 1394 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Vittorio Amedeo III. 1773-1796. 1/2 Carlino da 2.5 Doppie 1786, Torino. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. Aus der Auktion Hess Divo 340, Juni 2020, Los 328. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Amadeus III, 1773-96, half carlino or 2½ doppie of 1786, Turin mint. Very rare, Extremely fine, Small scratches.)"

This is an extremely rare one year type. In other parts of Italy, a doppia was a double ducat but in Sardinia a doppie was a double scudo, hence the different weight standard.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 22.78 g, 0.908 fine gold, this specimen 22.72 g.

Catalog reference: KM 87, MIR 980, Mont. 284, Fr-1119.
