Sarawak 1915-H 20 cents
This specimen was lot 35011 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sarawak: British Protectorate. Charles J. Brooke 20 Cents 1915-H AU53 NGC, Heaton mint. Fairly attractive for the grade, traces of original satiny finish still visible in the protected regions around the legends, and with a lightly peachy tone to the fields that proves quite delightful." Sarawak, a British colony on the northwest coast of Borneo, was ruled by a dynasty of white rajahs from 1841 to 1946. This type was issued 1900 and 1906-15 from Heaton. It is reasonably available in low grade but expensive in nice condition. It is accompanied by silver five, ten and fifty cents. The 1915 is the key date.
