Sarawak 1911-H 20 cents
This specimen was lot 74580 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "SARAWAK. 20 Cents, 1911-H. Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. Charles J. Brooke. NGC AU-50. A minor that is not often encountered, this lightly handled specimen remains without issue and is exceeded in the NGC census by just four other pieces." Sarawak, a British colony on the northwest coast of Borneo, was ruled by a dynasty of white rajahs from 1841 to 1946. This type was issued 1900 and 1906-15 from Heaton. It is somewhat scarce even in low grade but expensive in nice condition. It is accompanied by silver five, ten and fifty cents.
