This specimen was lot 75552 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $1,159. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAMOA. 100 Tala, 1980. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo." Wilhelm Heinrich Solf (1862-1936) was a German scholar, diplomat, jurist and statesman. he held many government posts during a long career, including governor of German Samoa 1900-11. The British seized the islands at the beginning of World War One and turned them over to New Zealand.
