Sincona sale 11, lot 2451

This specimen was lot 2451 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Salzburg, Erzbistum Sigismund von Schrattenbach, 1753-1771. Taler 1763. Vorzüglich. (Salzburg, archbishop Sigismund of Schrattenbach, 1753-71, thaler of 1763, extremely fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg, an ecclesiatical state between Austria and Bavaria, was blessed with abundant silver mines. This type, issued 1762-64, is fairly scarce.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 28.01 g.
