Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75625

This specimen was lot 75625 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Palladium 10 Rubles, 1990. Leningrad Mint. PCGS MS-69. This is a worthy example of the type with singular mint brilliance." Palladium was promoted in the late eighties and early nineties as a precious metal alternate to the more costly gold and platinum. The Communist regime, in its declining years, issued dozens of commemoratives in various metals as a means of earning foreign exchange.
