Russia 1906-SP 2 kopeks
This specimen was lot 72197 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1906-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. NGC MS-65 Brown. This nicely preserved Gem survivor exhibits boldly struck devices displaying pleasing rich patina." This type is listed for 1867-71, 1876-1914. The nineteenth century dates are scarce in nice condition but the later dates are common with, of course, the exception of the proofs. In 1914, Russia plunged into World War One, which conflict would lead to the destruction of the regime.
Recorded mintage: 6,250,000, a somewhat better date.
