Russia 1802-EM 2 kopeks
The first specimen was lot 21420 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopek, 1802-EM. NGC MS-62 BN. WINGS Approved. An even dark brown coloration throughout. A handsome example." The second specimen was lot 21490 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1802-EM. Alexander I (1801-1825). PCGS MS-63 RB Secure Holder. Novodel. Exhibiting premium eye appeal for the grade with few marks, a strike that is bold and crisply renders the high relief detail and fields that retain significant amounts of warm mint red coloration around the protected devices." This type was struck in large numbers 1802-04 at Ekaterinburg but few survive in nice condition.
