This specimen was lot 1031 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA: EMPIRE: Catherine II, the Great, 1762-1796, AR 15 kopeks, 1779, Saint Petersburg Mint, a pleasing lustrous mint state example, PCGS graded MS62, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection." This is a common date of a style issued 1778-82, with the 1782 being rare. The variety mentioned in the auction description is also rare. This denomination was struck in several styles during the reign of Catherine the Great, after which the denomination was dropped until the 1860's.
