Russia 1730 ruble Dav-1670
This specimen was lot 31548 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Anna Rouble 1730 AU55 NGC, Kadashevsky mint. Attractive and highly original, with bold detail atop a problem-free planchet and a mixture of yellow, golden and russet tone that assures absolute originality. Seldom is this date seen in a more appealing state. From the Jamestown Collection." The coinage of Russia of the eighteenth century is a confusing and fascinating subject. Many ruble types were issued only briefly and can be dated even if they don't bear dates. This type, issued 1730-33, is priced quite a bit lower than previous issues of Peter I, Catherine I and Peter II. The rubles of Peter II were about 28 grams but this type seems to be only 26 grams.
