Sincona sale 84, lot 22

This specimen was lot 22 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$471 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Kopeck 1716, Naberezhny Mint, NAZ. Very rare. Extremely fine. Extraordinary condition."

This type was struck 1713-17. In the days of Peter the Great, kopeks were struck in billon (KM 153) as well as copper (shown here). This coin is dated using Cyrillic letters, a habit dropped about 1720 for Arabic numbers.
