This specimen was lot 58198 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, ND (1561-84). Pskov Mint. Ivan IV (the Terrible). NGC MS-62." This style of coin, which was struck in various parts of Russia for several centuries in imitation of Mongol and Khazar issues, was made by beating lengths of silver wire flat and then striking them. Dengas and kopeks were made this way until the reforms of Peter the Great substituted round copper coins for these denominations.
