Romania 1924(p) 2 lei
This specimen was lot 21478 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "ROMANIA. 2 Lei, 1924. Poissy Mint. PCGS SP-66 Secure Holder. This pattern is distinguished from the production issue (KM 47) by the word ESSAI above the Poissy (thunderbolt) mintmark. Stambuliu notes that this issue was struck in silver (KM E11), brass, aluminum, aluminum-bronze, copper, copper-nickel (shown here), nickel and tin. This example must be among the finest survivors in any metal with surfaces that are unspotted and problem free, with the slightly subdued luster typical of copper-nickel. Extremely handsome overall!" The specification and mintage given below is that of the production release, KM 47. The type was also struck in Brussels and is common.
