This specimen was lot 30494 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carol I Leu 1870-C MS62 NGC, Bucharest mint. Coin Rotation variety. A choice, one-year type with attractive tone in varying shades of silvery-gray and a substantial amount of mint luster residing in the protected areas. Procuring an uncirculated example of this issue is extremely difficult, and so it only follows that this specimen which is of select quality should bring a substantial premium." This type is listed for 1870 only; the "C" is the initial of the mintmaster, not the mint, which was Bucharest. Carol I would not claim the title of king until 1884.

Recorded mintage: 400,000.

Specification: 5 g, ..835 fine silver, .134 troy oz ASW, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 6.
