Regensburg 1546 guldiner Dav-9680
This specimen was lot 42255 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Regensburg. Guldiner, 1546. Regensburg Mint. Pankraz von Sinzenhofen (with Karl V). NGC AU-55. A boldly detailed slate-gray example with mild high-point wear and soft luster present throughout." Coins were issued for Regensburg both by the city council and the bishop (shown here). The bishop Pancratius Sinzenhofer (1538-48) issued this type in 1544-47. It is expensive but the other episcopal thalers for the sixteenth century are much rarer. Today, Regensburg is part of Bavaria.
